THREE’S A CROWD

More than a blog…

I hope you did not find this page in search of mediocre 80’s sitcom fandom—you will likely be sorely disappointed if that’s the case.

Once Izzie was born, we started a care page to update friends and family on daily developments in the NICU and ways to direct prayer and support. Eventually, I started to journal and reflect on that platform about God and his goodness and his sovereignty—about life in general—updates on the family, challenges of parenting and caregiving, transitions in careers etc. After sustained feedback from my loyal base of #IzzieFans, I decided to take my idle thoughts and musings (prattle??) directly onto the World Wide Web.

This started out as a personal blog, where I would reflect on my life as a dad of three precious girls—sharing stories about the joys and sorrows of caregiving and balancing all of the rest of life’s demands. Basically, I just talked about what I was learning or reading or thinking about.

I will be posting a newsletter on the last Sunday of every month. I invite you along for the journey!

Lastly, I hope you will also take a moment to appreciate all of the layers of meaning to this blog title and logo. As you can see, three is a crowd when it comes to chromosomes (trisomy 18 included). Three is also a crowd when it comes to children. “Three’s a crowd” is an expression that alludes to a third person spoiling the privacy or intimacy of a pair of lovers (think “third wheel”)—or in our case, three smaller people have all significantly contributed to the challenge of privacy and intimacy in our home! Additionally, the logo shows three human forms of varying statures, representing my three daughters who are also varied in size, and these forms are in the same style as the chromosome 18 from this genetic diagram! #MindBlownEmoji.

  • Choosing The ‘Life Narrative’ For My Daughter Living With Trisomy 18

Up until the last few years, Trisomy 13 and 18 have been among a few congenital syndromes that medical texts and experts deemed to be “incompatible with life.” It therefore has been a common practice for families and physicians facing this diagnosis to either choose abortions or to withhold certain medical interventions that would otherwise…
